Meet Tiarne April Bridal specialist. Award-winning. Human sunshine.
Tiarne played with mannequins in her mum's salon as a kid and never really stopped. Hairexpo Bridal Stylist of the Year 2018. Artistic Director across both Chumba salons. Mum of two. The reason several clients have driven hours across Melbourne just for a blow-dry.
Talkative, caring, enthusiastic β and she'll make your blow-dry last seven days
Tiarne started the way the best stylists do β as a kid, sitting in her mum's salon, playing with a mannequin. The love of playing never changed. She applied to join Chumba three times before she got through the door, and she's been here for ten years since.
As Artistic Director she works across both salons β Thursday late nights at Chapel St Windsor, Saturday mornings at Warragul. She's currently returning from maternity leave with her second baby, and her immediate verdict on being back: "Like I never left."
Her clients describe her as talkative, caring and enthusiastic. Her kids would say she can't live without coffee and a schedule. Both are correct. At the salon, she's the one who takes over the music, puts on something poppy, and bounces around singing along while she works.
Shine and fullness. She works so hard on her everyday blow waves that they're good enough for a special occasion β and still look great on day seven.
"A wedding is one of the highest honours"
Tiarne won Hairexpo Bridal Stylist of the Year in 2018 and has been part of countless weddings since. She wants to be involved in the planning β not just there on the day.
She needs to know the dress, the flowers, the vibe. Backless dress means hair up to show the dress. Heavy sequins or beading means keep the hair simple. Red roses mean a formal event needs formal hair. Baby's breath means go whimsical and soft. Every detail changes the direction.
And before she picks up a single tool, she's already thought through whether there's enough length for hair down, whether the colour is consistent underneath for an updo, and whether the veil goes in without a fight.
Minimal hair. Minimal makeup. A lot of effort.
Tiarne is currently in a phase of back to basics β loving simple looks and understanding that it takes extraordinary effort to make hair look like you did nothing at all. Her inspiration right now? Hailey Bieber.
Early in her career she pushed hard every minute to get better. Now she understands she's good enough to lead and direct. She knows her strengths, and in those strengths she's confident enough to grow others around her.
She's also Chumba's Christmas fairy and social secretary β if there's a team event, a celebration, or anything happening on the social calendar, it flows through Tiarne.
