Hair Expo Feveerrrr!!

by Carl Keeley

There's something a little disturbing about grown men walking around Chapel St with dolly heads debating the pro's and con's of this colour clash or that texture - but - we're hairdressers and we reserve the right to be loopy at least once a year... maybe more but thats just how that rolls around here.

So here we go again ... the Chumba Team of Hair fanatics are as busy as Santa's Little Helpers packing, preening, wig making and squealing with anticipation for the upcoming Hair Expo Australia weekend in Sydney. It's crack for Hairdressers basically.

And what a weekend it'll be - once we arrive (if we arrive that is) on the cheapest flights we could find which is what every family of fifteen has to do. We'll all be staying at a Backpackers in Bathurst St. So yes that's fifteen hairdressers sleeping in one dorm room and of course there's a shared bathroom between them all. Luxury my Luv, thank you Queen B for that Spartan touch you're on the top bunk baby.

Chumba kicks off Expo Sunday with three of our Young Guns on the Launch Pad stage main hall. Followed by the full Chumba Creative Team on the Look'n'Learn  stage at 1-30pm for a one hour show called 'Kaleidoscope'. It's about colourful hair of course set to the sound track of 'Om'. Watch this and you'll have a mind bender of a time so catch us if you can and the rest of your day will fly by like a dream.

Pete le'Coolio Koziell will head to the AHC Youth Workx stage on Monday with a load of other Gen Y Kids to see who really can complete a sentence with out saying 'I or Me' whilst fiddling with some hair and their iPhones.

The rest of Sunday and Monday will be jam packed with education, shows and ultimately sore heads and feet. Until of course the main event rolls out on Monday Night - the Hair Expo Hairdresser of the Year Awards.

Can 'King Carl' win his category of Australian Emerging Hairdresser of the Year - and that we'll have to answer in the next blog post.

Oh and yes he did shoot that himself...

Knock knock. Who is it? It's Chloe Hegan!

by Carl Keeley

As you all know there's a Reality Distortion Field operating in and around Chumba Windsor. That place is out of control lately! Put a cork in it Chapel St team ;-)

This time 'it's' dragged in Chloe Hegan a bright eyed  hair nerd from across the ditch - south side of the ditch - Invercargill, NZ to be exacto. A true Kiwi cuzzy (with a slight accent). This makes even the King chuckle in his Jandals on a cold day with his pork bones & puha aye.

Like all successful hook ups we  weren't even looking - BUT if you want to kick our door down we will take that as a good sign. Who breaks into an asylum anyway? Oh well, too late throw away the key, we have a Chloe and we can guarantee that this is no Bluff Oyster.

Chloe is available Tuesday - Saturday at Chumba, Chapel St 9533 7990 for bookings.

Hi Chumbaterians,

I hail from the Great Deep South of New Zealand. I took off to the North East looking for the next step in my career. After a quick look around  I've found my way to beautiful Melbourne  to learn from your countries very finest.

With Seven years hairdressing experience up my sleeve and an award or two from back home I am more than excited to be joining the wonderfully talented team at Chumba.

I find nothing more rewarding than creating ‘Hot’ hair and believe Education is paramount.  So be assured I am a Nerd for hairdressing and am constantly up skilling.

I am also a self confessed perfectionist and pride myself on my customer service skills and ability to adapt to each individuals wants and needs. Communication is key so whether it is an edgy trend setting new  cut or a touch up on your all time favourite colour I am more than capable and happy to deliver.

When I’m not in My Element in the Salon you can find me exploring this amazing city, I’m a gym bunny who loves to over indulge, where better to do that then here in Melbourne : )

And the Winners are... Wade And Steffi!

by Carl Keeley

Monday Night saw Team Chumba drinking like Ducks in Sydney. Somewhere well into double digit 'drinkies' the winners of the Australian Hair Fashion Awards were announced.... amongst the winners were our own Steffi Tanian for Australian Apprentice Hairdresser of the Year 2013.

AND... Wade Blackford was named Australian Hair Fashion Awards Avante Garde Hairdresser of the Year 2013.

You can imagine the aftermath was predictably messy for all on Flight QF 434 from Sydney the next day. Oh, and the Taxi driver from Tullamarine. Lets just say Wade can handle his refreshments but a certain Vegan may not fare so well ;-)

Having said that Steffi did mange to bring home her glass statuette in one piece. Wade's glass sculpture was last seen in a million bits in a Sydney recycling bin.

On points we'll give the dual performance equal marks for outcome and drama!

Sasha is Wagga Wagga bound

by Carl Keeley

It was a really sad day for us when our longtime desk jockey Sasha locked up the salon for her last time on Saturday.

Sasha has been recalled back to her family business in Wagga Wagga - Harefield Ridge. Her family has a magnificent  winery, function centre, gift store, olive oil products and restaurant all on a brilliant estate.

So Sasha has her work cut out for her in helping run a really exciting business.

We know Sasha will kick butt up there as she always does!

Sash we miss you so much already - but we're so proud of all that you achieved and excited about this next opportunity for you to shine xx

ps; we'll see you soon for a glass or two in the grapes ;-)

Sasha goes to Wagga Wagga
