IHS Victorian Hairdressing Championships

Chumba recently competed at the IHS Victorian Hairdressing Championships along with about 500 other hairdressing competitors.
As a special treat Belinda was the guest compere along with John Montano, IHS Australian President.
Making us proud with wins were Siobhan (Chapel St), Mel (Warragul) and Todd (Drouin).
On a special side note Peter (Warragul), had what can only be described as a bizarre hairdressing accident. Peter lost a tooth early in the day after a tangle with a hairdryer! He returned from hospital stitched and minus the tooth to take his place on the competition floor later that day. Now that’s a tough hairdresser ![]()
Chumba Cuts it for IHS Show, Melbourne
Special thanks to the Revlon colour technicians, Excellent Edges and all of team Chumba for making the Haircutting show a success.
Check out our web gallery of behind the scenes shots

Team Chumba will be taking the stage for the upcoming IHS Hairdressing industry night in Melbourne this month. As ambassadors for Excellent Edges Scissorsmiths Carl & Belinda will demonstrate their cutting prowess to their hairdressing peers. This show is a prelude to the big Hair Expo show in Sydney next month. So it's the last chance to get the butterflies out before we hit the big stage!
Todd & Tania win at IHS mini comp

Congratulations to Todd Winterton and Tania Davis from our Warragul salon on their recent wins ![]()
The two recently competed at the IHS mini Victorian championships in Melbourne.
This was a big day for Todd as he won third place in Junior Ladies Fashion Colour. This is Todd’s first medal in his 6 month old hairdressing career. So we’re all thrilled at his early success but not surprised as he worked really hard for this comp.
Tania is an old hand at winning competitions as an apprentice and has a stack of awards to prove it but this win is extra special.
Tania claimed first place in the Open Ladies Evening Long Hair event. This was Tania’s first competition in the open events after a very successful apprentice career. Rookie seniors like Tania aren’t expected to be successful in Open hairdressing competition for a long time. For some they may never break through against the much tougher open class.
Not one to be held back, Tania won gold on her very first outing in the open class!
Well done team Chumba your clients can look froward to experiencing your new skills in salon now. Both Tania and Todd are available in our Warragul Salon.

Today we got the keys for our new hair salon at 109 Chapel St, Windsor. We have a new partner in this store Marcus Alvarado, formerly of Hawthorn.
Carl & Belinda worked with Marcos for many years at one of Melbourne's best known hairdressing salons. So it's with real delight that we welcome Marcus into the Chumba family with this landmark salon.
Many won't know, but it is exactly this Melbourne block that was home to Carl & Belinda before they moved to Warragul. In fact it was Carl's first Australian neighborhood and remained so for many years until the 'tree-change'. So I guess this exciting new Chumba chapter is somewhat warm & fuzzy. After-all - who doesn't love going home once in awhile!

L'Oreal Fashion Week

As you no doubt have seen in the media, last week was L'Oreal Fashion Week. Backstage was your Chumba stylists, mixing it and mingling it with the best session stylists in the country in order to produce the catwalk runway looks that you've seen throughout the week in print and television.
Backstage at the biggest show, Myer that opens Fashion Week, Carl & Tania joined the L'oreal team under the direction of Valonz, Sydney. Valonz is considered to be Australia's leading catwalk salon. As such the opportunity to work alongside this team was an honor. Centerpiece to the show was of course Myer super-model Jen Hawkins. But sadly no - we didn't get to do Jen's hair on this occasion.

Next up was Tuesdays Fashion Awards show. Representing Chumba was Meg & Mel. The 'super blonde twosome' did our salon proud handling more than half of the shows models and producing some stunning looks. Well done girls!
At Chumba we have the pleasure of working on these shows on a regular ongoing basis. Well - what does that mean to you?
It means that when you visit a Chumba salon you can be assured that your stylist is trained and tested amongst the very best in Australia. It means that the looks we can offer you are 'right on this minute in fashion'.
At Chumba it also means that if you bring along a picture of a style that you'd like, the answer will be "yes, we can do that for you". Not 'ummm...'
Why not treat yourself like a star and make a booking at Chumba for your glam look.
Carl signs on as an Excellent Edges Ambassodor
Last month we received an approach from the World famous Scissorsmiths from Melbourne - Excellent Edges.
There request was a flattering invitation to Carl to become the first member of the Ex Edges Education and show team for 2008.
Shows begin with the companies 21st Birthday bash at Docklands, Melbourne.
In support will be the entire Chumba crew.
Carl will be joined on stage by Sue Edwards of Edge-ucation. And special guest presenter - Belinda!
Yes - thats two Chumba Art Directors leading the Ex Edges show piece.
The year's schedule covers most states and probably NZ.
We'll keep you posted.

The Gipps TAFE Championships held in Morewell is always a tough day for us. With all 6 apprentices involve the directors and seniors are allowed to do nothing but watch as our young stylist take on the best in Gippsland.
