Our story of creating a team that is passionate about hairdressing
Chumba Concept Salon was born in 2003. Partners Carl & Belinda Keeley has the crazy thought of opening a world-class hairdressing salon and have fun doing it too.
The crazy bit was that this husband and wife team would move to regional Victoria to do it properly. And so we did. We moved from the ‘hussle & bussle’ of Melbourne’s Chapel Street fashion precinct to the picturesque countryside of Gippsland.
What motivated us to drop the fashionista existence of metro Melbourne for the greenery of Gippsland? In a word - talent. Particularly young hairdressing talent. In order for Chumba to succeed we reasoned, Chumba must attract, train and retain high quality staff. And it was in Gippsland that we knew we’d find these talented and motivated future industry leaders.
The rest is as they say ‘history’. Chumba did find a rich vein of young talent here in Gippsland. Team Chumba was born almost five years ago now and has fulfilled it’s original goal of forging a world-class outfit. So now that our first crop of tomorrow’s salon leaders are indeed leading our two Gippsland Salon’s, where will Chumba go next you say? The answer back to the beginning of course. Chumba’s next venture is back to Chapel Street, Melbourne. With our nursery of talent being nurtured in our headquarters of Gippsland, we are proud to re-enter the Melbourne market place with our latest salon.
Our philosophy in hairdressing is the same as when we first started out. That is to provide truly world-class hair services to our wonderful clients. And that simple goal keeps us striving everyday. Oh - and we do have a heap of fun doing it too!
